Focus:

Friends of Elk River advocates for a healthy forest and a clean river–good for people, good for fish —and for regulatory reform and watershed restoration. Elk River Heritage project seeks to build alliances within the Elk River community and with our neighbors the Wiyot people, whose unceeded territory we inhabit.

Bioregion Description:

The Elk River is the largest tributary of Humboldt Bay, and typical of North Coast watersheds characterized by redwood / mixed conifer forest, erosive soils, and salmon-bearing streams. Due to a century and a half of logging, all but one are classified as Impaired by the state’s Water Quality Board.
